Meat

Cut me open.

Right down the middle.

Peel the skin from my body

Like a dissected frog.

Familiarize yourself with how I feel,

How my bones are placed beneath my skin,

And how plump and full

Each organ sits beneath them.

Reach into

The cage of my ribs,

Take gloved hands

And wring the air from my lungs,

Squeeze them dry.

Rob me.

Take my heart

Between dirty,

Sterile gloves,

Squeeze hard

Feel it beating in your palm, make

A mess.

Let the blood

Drip through the gaps in your fingers,

Soaking through the latex

And under your nails

Leaving deep red crescents

In the shape of me.

Take each organ and

Clean them.

Flush each cavity with fluid,

Empty me.

Carve me with care,

Put me on display.

I know you’re hungry.
